Penfield's original owner, Julia Reidy, started buying Alvina's pots in the 1980s. Alvina learned to make pottery from her mother, Felipita Nonche. Alvina places attractive teardrop openings and Kiva Steps on her pots. Alvina has won Blue Ribbons and other awards at Santa Fe Indian Market for her outstanding pots. Alvina won 2nd place in the Melon Bowl & Melon Jar Division at 2013 Santa Fe Indian Market. Alvina won First Place in the 2014 Santa Fe Indian Market in the Melon Bowls and Melon Jars Formed or Carved Classification. Alvina won a Second and a Third Place in an etched style Pottery Division 2015 SWAIA Indian Market. In the 2017 SWAIA Indian Market, Alvina won 2nd place on Carved or Incised Black on Red Pottery over 8." Alvina won 2nd place in Pottery, any form or design, using natural materials with or without decorative elements with traditional firing techniques in the 2018 SWAI Indian Market."
