Mary Chalan | Cochiti Storyteller Artist | Penfield Gallery of Indian Arts | Albuquerque | New Mexico Mary Chalan learned the art of storyteller making from her mother-in-law, Helen Codero, who is credited with making the first storyteller. Mary uses traditional hand coiled methods of working with clay and natural colors in creating her grandma and grandpa storytellers. Mary has won awards at the New Mexico State Fair and in shows in Arizona and Colorado. Mary's photo appeared on the cover of the New Mexico Magazine several years ago.
