Death of a Zuni Matriarch
Edna Leki died within the last few days. She was the matriarch of a well known family of traditional, old style Zuni Pueblo carvers. Her fetishes were closer in appearance to those of her father, Teddy Weahkee's, non-realistic style. Her children, Lena Boone and Dinah Gasper, continue making beautiful old style carvings along with very sleek looking fetish necklaces. Edna's son, Anderson Weahkee, does not currently carve, but in the past he has made strong fetish carvings of bears and other animals.
